Start by looking at how you actually live. Count the days you spend at work, at home and going out, and let those proportions decide what you keep and what you buy.
Pick a base of two or three neutrals, such as navy, camel, grey or black, and one or two accent colors you love. When most pieces share a palette, almost everything pairs with everything else.
Invest in the pieces you wear most: a coat, a good pair of everyday shoes, well-cut trousers or jeans, and a jacket that layers over anything.
Keep trend pieces to a small share of the whole. They add personality without dating the rest of the closet.
Before buying something new, name three outfits it would make with what you already own. If you can't, it probably isn't for this capsule.
